Tell us a little about yourself and how you got into photography?
My name is Jules Hatton-ward i am 16 years old and i'm from the east coast of Australia, little place called Cronulla, I grew up always been in or around the ocean, about 2 years ago after dealing with an injury from footy which lead to not been able to surf, I got into taking photos and loved the idea of surf photography so I put the passion to reality, with the help of playing a lot of water polo when I was younger, treading water out in big surf definitely helped.

What excites you about getting out there escaping & creating?

I get so hyped when I hear about a big swell coming up and from the moment I jump in the ocean everything that's on my mind just washes away, getting amongst all the action and focused on trying to survive and of course get the shot, my adrenaline goes nuts as I feel so little and feel so alive been surrendered in such raw powerful and dangerous waves in the ocean. I'm definitely addicted to the feeling.

What fascinates you about the ocean?
Pretty much everything fascinates me about the ocean, I don't know what I would be doing or where I would be at if I didn't have the ocean in my life, never have I thought it gets boring or get over it all because there has never been the exact same wave twice, every wave is different. and capturing surfing from angles no one ever gets to see it from is definitely a great feeling.

How was the Vagabond workshop at Cronulla Beach earlier year, fav moments and what was the experience like sharing the ocean with like-minded people and also getting to hang out with and learning from Shannon Glasson?

This day was a great opportunity and Shannon has always been helping me from ever since I picked up a camera and still does to help me with contacts and getting into the technical and business side of things in surf photography, such as surfing mags and contests so I'm really thankful for that.

Fav part of that day would have been jumping in the water early with some good people and creating images that people don't have the chance to get out there can see for themselves.

If there was one destination you could travel to and photograph where would it be?

Tahiti is definitely the place id love to go as the waves and landscape is crazy from what I have heard.
