The 10 Stop Filter is used during the day outside of golden hour as the bright ambient light requires much more ‘light blocking’. These can prolong exposures for up to 5 minutes during golden hour with the appropriate settings.
The 6 Stop Filter is generally used during the golden hour to create exposures of 1-2 minutes for smooth water or clouds. A 6 Stop is also great for capturing dynamic water while retaining some texture before the golden hour.
The 3 Stop Filter is commonly used for waterfalls and capturing water flow at shutter speeds from 0.5 seconds to 2 seconds.
The 3 Stop Medium Graduated Filter is a rectangular filter that helps to darken specific areas of an image, such as bright skies while allowing for a normal, unaffected exposure in the other regions of the image. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a medium-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. A neutral density filter with a medium-edged line of transition is particularly useful for images that feature buildings, small mountains and other elements that protrude into high into the skyline. The transition zone of a medium is 40% smaller than a Soft GND and is wonderful for shooting at sunrise and sunset.
The 3 Stop Reverse Graduated Neutral Density Filter (3 Stop) is commonly used for Sunset and sunrise. The NiSi reverse GND filter is designed with dark area on the centre of the filter and gradually clearer to the top while the bottom part is clear preventing overexposure of skyline.
The Natural Night Filter is exclusive for night photography. Between mercury vapour, sodium, Low CRI streetlights, there are many undesirable wavelengths of light that pollute the night sky. The glow from these can keep your camera from seeing the sky properly and affect your night images. Because of this, NiSi has created the Natural Night Filter to block the most common wavelengths of light pollution.
